Shrinking cities

Michigan cities

A big issue right now where I live is the proposal that cities abandon some neighborhoods and districts and concentrate on a core group of neighborhoods. That is to say, stop providing city services such as road maintenance, trash pick up, fire, police and water to areas that are deemed to be mostly empty anyway. I understand that the areas that are abandoned would then be turned into "Green Zones" by tearing down the remaining structures, and letting the land then be used for farming, recreation, or simply letting it revert back to the forest that it once was.

In my opinion, that is a very good idea. Cities simply cannot act like its 1975 and GM was booming. The shrinking concept is about the most valid proposal that has been heard for a good many years. Most of the areas that may be abandoned are full of condemned buildings, trash filled empty lots, and are places that I would not recommend going to without a firearm. It only makes sense to go with the changing times. Cities and municipalities must change with the world as it is today, not the world of yesterday.
